Smithville – Opal Marie Ballenger Lindsey, 93, began her new life in Heaven on Thursday, August 4, 2022. She was born in Georgia on April 23, 1929, to the late C. B. Ballenger and Buna Armstrong Ballenger.
Opal grew up in a family with three other siblings. Their family moved from Georgia to Alabama and she graduated from Double Springs High School. Opal married the love of her life, Worley Lindsey, on January 15, 1951 and together they were blessed with two sons. In addition to being a great homemaker and mother, she also worked to help financially support her family. Opal worked as a Supervisor at ITA Manufacturing, a garment plant, in Tremont, MS. She enjoyed her work but helping to raise her family gave her the most pride.
She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Smithville and she loved the Lord. Opal enjoyed attending church and worshiping with her fellow church members. She was a fine Christian lady, humble, and a true servant who always pitched in to help others. She loved the work St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital did and she was always willing to give to help in Missions.
In her free time, she enjoyed being with her family and friends, as well as her neighbors and her Aunt Ruth White. She liked to listen to Gospel music, go fishing, quilting, crocheting, sewing and reading. Opal loved her family dearly and they call themselves blessed to have had such a wonderful Christian role model.
Although she has left this earth, her family have confidence of where she is and that there was a sweet reunion on the day she went home. The memories made with her will be cherished forever.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald Lindsey (Jan), Smithville, Eddie Lindsey (Pam), Guin, Al; grandchildren, Phillip Lindsey, Amanda Hopkins (David); great-grandchildren, Maddie, Sydney, Levi, and Jasmin; a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Worley Lindsey; her brothers, Olton Ballenger, Ovie Ballenger, and Albert Ballenger.
