Amory – Oneta Pearce Baker, 88, died on Sunday, September 18, 2011, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on December 21, 1922, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late Coleman E. and Clara B. Sewell Pearce.
Mrs. Baker was a graduate of Greenwood Springs High School and a business college graduate. She had worked as an executive secretary until retiring in 1993. Mrs. Baker married John Robert Patton in June 1955, and they lived in St. Louis, MO, and Memphis, TN, for several years. She married Ralph A. Baker in 1993. A faithful member of First United Methodist Church, she loved her church, was a member of the Friendship Sunday School class, and was always volunteering for church functions. Having served in several offices, she was a past-president of the United Methodist Women. Passionate about the Flower Lovers Garden Club, Mrs. Baker was a Master Flower Show judge. She was a member of the Frisco Club and AARP, having served as Vice-President and Secretary. A people-person, Mrs. Baker always practiced the Golden Rule. A loving and caring lady, she enjoyed flower gardening and traveling.
She is survived by a cousin, John E. Sewell (Mary Ellen), Pontotoc; aunt, Lorena White, Birmingham, AL; nephew, Burnell Hollingsworth (Barbara), Aberdeen; and a host of other cousins and close friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, John Robert Patton and Ralph A. Baker; and brother, C. E. Pearce, Jr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, September 21 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Rev. Warren R. Coile and Rev. Don McCain officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Creekmore, Bobby Flippo, Jay Harrelson, Stephen Hathcock, Roy Thomas, and Ronald Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be the UMW, Friendship Sunday School class, Frisco Club, and the Flower Lovers Garden Club.
Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
