Sipsey Fork – Mrs. Onay Ray Beard, 100, died on Sunday, April 3, 2011, in Beaverton, AL. Born on September 11, 1910, in the Sipsey Fork Community, she was a daughter of the late Francis Marion and Adelena A. Irvin Ray.
A homemaker, she was a lifelong resident of the Sipsey Fork Community. Mrs. Beard was a faithful member of New Center Point Church where she had served as the church secretary for six years. She enjoyed helping others, playing the piano and singing, gardening, making quilts, cooking, reading her Bible and working puzzle books. Mrs. Beard cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son-in-law, Charles Clifton, Greenwood Springs; nephew whom she loved like a son, Billy G. (Mary) King, Greenwood Springs; grandchildren, Teresa Dillard, Greenwood Springs, Debbie (Ray) England, Hamilton, AL; Diane (Frankie) Woodruff, Sulligent, AL; Joan (Tony) Perry, Winfield, AL, and Donna Kaye Gilmer, Sulligent, AL; great-grandchildren, Laine (George) Thompson, Hailey Dillard, Jennie (Marion) Holcomb, Brandi Parker, Robert Lee Parker, James Wade, Jimmy Dewayne Woodruff, Ashley Woodruff, Nathan Flippo, Brent Flippo, Kelsey Templeton, Alexus Threadgill and Ryan Perry; 18 great-great-grandchildren; great-niece, April (David) Dallas; and great-nephew, Chris (Christy) King, Splunge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Beard, whom she married on December 23, 1934; daughters, Imojean Gilmer and Magdalene Clifton; sisters, Bertie Mae Ray, Lola Gray Ray Black, Mila Day Ray and Floree King; and brother-in-law, Clarence King.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at New Center Point Church with Bro. Edward Puckett and Bro. Kelvin Price officiating. Burial will follow in Pickle Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris King, Herbert Scott, Jerry D. Woodruff, Lee Parker, Nicholas Warren, Cory Lee, David Dallas and George Thompson.
Visitation will continue until the service time on Tuesday at the church.
