Hatley – Olen Lee Moore, 89, died on Monday, December 23, 2014, at River Place Nursing Center, Amory. Born on November 1, 1925, in Sulligent, AL, he was a son of the late Sidney and Bertha Hopkins Moore.
Mr. Moore attended Vernon High School and was drafted while in the 11th grade. He honorably served in the US Army during World War II, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of three Bronze Stars. On March 22, 1947, he married Mary Lois Carter. A diesel mechanic, he worked with Scribner Equipment Company for 20 years and with Thompson Machinery for 13 years, retiring in 1988. Wanting to stay busier than retirement brought, Mr. Moore worked for Big Star as a grocery bagger/clerk. A dedicated and faithful Christian, he was a member of Amory Church of Christ. Mr. Moore always looked forward to going to church, spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hardworking and a provider for his family, his ministry was always being ready to help others; he would often pick a five gallon bucket of peas and give to those in need. Mr. Moore enjoyed Gospel music and gardening, especially tending to his 3 acres of peas.
