Ogal "Red" Sloan

Nettleton – Ogal G. “Red” Sloan, 84, died on Friday, September 9, 2011, at Countrywood Assisted Living, Mantachie. Born on October 6, 1926, in Itawamba County, he was a son of the late Richard Kirk and Mary Ella Attaway Sloan.
Mr. Sloan attended Carolina School and honorably served his Country in the US Army at the end of World War II. Working until having a stroke, he had worked at Evans Lumber Company, was a self-employed logger, worked for the Itawamba County District 3 Supervisor, for the City of Amory as the Street Department manager for 19 years, and working outdoors cutting wood and cutting and baling hay. Mr. Sloan was a Deacon and member of New Bethel Baptist Church. A wonderful, hardworking, and loving Dad and grandfather, he was a provider and mentor for his family. Mr. Sloan enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and Gospel music. He was a member of the Peaceful Valley and Cold Springs Hunting Clubs.
He is survived by his daughters, Katherine Conwill, Nettleton, Louise Clark, Amory, and Elizabeth Thompson, Nettleton; grandchildren, Donna Ray (Charles), Dena Conwill, Dawn West (Gary), Deloris Hadaway (Teddy), Ray Clark (Julie), and Lorne Thompson (Glenda); great- grandchildren, Donnie, Hope, and Becky Ray; T. J., Tyler, and Megan Hadaway; and Trey Clark; six great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Dykes Sloan, and son-in-law, Don Conwill.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, September 12 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Joey Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Wiygul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Russell Shackleford, Teddy Hadaway, Ray Clark, Charles Ray, Gary West, and Lorne Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Cox, Bobby Joe Blake, Billy Joe Laney, Roger Harris, Son Hall, Donald Wayne Young, Raymond Sandlin, Thomas Griffith, Billy Glasgow, Roger Dozier, and Wayne Thompson.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.
