Amory – O’Clay Francis Brown, 82, died on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on March 14, 1929, in Smithville, she was a daughter of the late Willie Casper and Pearl Truman Phillips Francis.
Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Smithville High School, Class of 1947. She married James Douglas “Doug” Brown on October 1, 1954. For thirty years, Mrs. Brown worked as an operator and cashier for Southern Bell/BellSouth. She was of the Free Will Baptist faith. A bubbly, fun, and outgoing lady, she never met a stranger. Mrs. Brown enjoyed of taking care of people. Passionate about her love of animals, she loved her dogs and was a supporter of Amory Humane Society. Mrs. Brown enjoyed selling Avon products, collecting glassware, and enjoyed being with her friends.
She is survived by her nieces, Wanda LeDain (John), Beach Park, IL, and Terrie Hanson, Amory; nephew, Ray Priddy (Liz), Burlington, WI; great-nieces, Jolie Hook, Tabitha Priddy, and Heidi Priddy; great-nephew, Jason McCarley (Cyndie); and great-great-nieces, Riley and Reagan Hook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Opal Priddy and Afton Hanson; and great-nephews, Brandon and Benny Priddy.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, August 17 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Whaley, Bro. H. V. Brown, and Bro. Bud McGraw officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Steve Brown, Phil Brown, Jim Cunningham, John Clingan, Barry Jones, and David Stanford. Honorary pallbearers will be Ragan Fikes and Danny Robertson.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
For those who prefer, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, c/o Beth May, P. O. Box 269, Amory, MS 38821.
