Smithville – Nina Kay Cox Morrison, 89, finished her earthly course and began her new life in Heaven on Sunday, December 19, 2021. She was born on December 31, 1931, in Pearce Chapel Community of Smithville, MS, to the late Virgil Hanley Knight and Era Mae “Wylie” Knight.
Nina grew up in Monroe County and attended Pearce Chapel School and Smithville High School. While in school, she was quite the athlete, with basketball being her favorite sport. She was blessed during her lifetime with two loving husbands, her first and the father of her children, L. J. Cox and the second, Lewis Morrison. Nina was also blessed with two daughters and a son as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
She worked for many years as a seamstress in the garment factories, including Glenn Manufacturing, yet her most important job was that of a home maker. She was a great cook, mother, and wife and at times she would sew clothing at home for her family. Nina believed in the Lord and served others selflessly. She attended Pearce Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and daily she lived out her faith by putting others first. Her family meant the world to her and the wisdom she shared with her family and friends will be cherished for generations.
In her free time, she liked to listen to George Jones and sew or cook for family. Nina also enjoyed an early morning jaunt around town in search of any great bargains she might find at a yard sale. Above all, she really just enjoyed visiting with her family, sharing a meal and reminiscing about great past memories.
She will be greatly missed but her family knows she had a sweet reunion in heaven with the ones who went before her.
Nina is survived by her son, Lewis Edward “Ed” Cox (Barbara), Smithville; son-in-law, Rick Tignor; grandchildren, Laurie Galloway, Beth Scott (Harmon), Patricia Weeks, Jerome Cox (Misty), Alannah Adams, and Brian Adams; great-grandchildren, Emily Albritton, Robert Scott, James Scott, Joshua Scott, Mycala Bell, Secora Weeks, Cadye Weeks, Harley Cox, Tristin Brewer, Aubrey Morgan Cox, Olivia Cox; great-grandchild, Kaelyn Albritton; sister, Glenda Holloway; brother, Lawrence Knight; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, L.J. Cox and Lewis Morrison; daughter, Linda Kay Weeks and her husband Noel; daughter, Annie Mae Tignor; grandchild, Chris Adams; great-grandchild, Ayden Lavender Kaden; sisters, Helen Wright, Nelda Boozer, Anita Kennedy, and Lauran Jane Knight; brothers, Hubert W.
