Amory – Nelson Joseph Espiritu, 71, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at his residence. Born on August 28, 1943, in Lahina, Maui, he was a son of Alfonso and Agnes Rodrigues Espiritu Silva.
Nelson attended school in Maui. He loved to serve the public and he worked for 35 years as a grocery clerk. During that time, he was member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. In 2001, Nelson married Nelda K. Jones. Nelson was a talented wood worker and he loved the outdoors. He appreciated exotic plants and loved to go camping in RV’s. His family was the most important thing to him in his life. He was blessed with three daughters and numerous grand and great-grandchildren. He was kind hearted to everyone he met. When it came to music, he enjoyed listening to the oldies.
Survivors include his wife, Nelda K. Espiritu, Amory; daughters, Cathy Sweet (Mark), California, Monique Foster (Greg), California, and Jennifer Espiritu, Colorado; mother, Agnes Silva Espiritu; sister, Patricia Silva (Frank), California; brother, Michael Silva (Karen), Utah; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
In addition to his father, Joe Espiritu, he was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Espiritu.
The family will have a private visitation.
