Amory – Nellie Fay Vernon, 76, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016, at Sanctuary Hospice. Born on May 30, 1939, in Becker, she was a daughter of the late Jim D. and Mary Elizabeth Adams Thompson.
Nellie was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1959. She married Jerry Vernon. For many years, Nellie was the manager of Shelaine Restaurant. A very sweet and kind lady, she was a nondenominational church member. Having a big heart, Nellie loved animals and would bring stray dogs home. She was good to her family and was passionate about helping others, especially her employees. She enjoyed going to the casinos with her friends and traveling. Nellie listened to Elvis Presley and Country music by Charlie Pride, Merle Haggard and George Jones.
Survivors include her sisters, Dorothy Harlow, Verona; and Mary Alice Kunda, Groveland, FL; 35 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Vernon; sister, Brenda Floyd; brothers, Jimmy Thompson and Willie Dale Poss; great-niece, Miranda Kunda.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, April 11, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Rick Burton officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Glenn Parish, Johnny Sloan, Marvin Adams, Ronnie Sloan, Hershel Hood, Lamar Hood, Billy Hood, and Michael Kunda.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Sunday, at the funeral home.
