Nellie Sue Stanford Johnson
Saltillo – Nellie Sue Stanford Johnson, 87, finished her time here on earth and had a sweet reunion in Heaven on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Sue was born on May 2, 1937, in Lamar County, Alabama to the late Earlie Stanford and Tollie Hughes Stanford.
Sue grew up in Lamar County, Alabama and was a graduate of Sulligent High School with the class of 1956. Literally the next day after graduation, Sue was hired to work as a Seamstress in the clothing industry. A hardworking woman, Sue worked at Glenn manufacturing and Red Cap Industries in Amory, MS for many years as she helped support her family. She married the love of her life, Donald Johnson, on May 8, 1959 and together they worked in the manufacturing industry as they built their lives together. They were blessed by God with a loving son, a wonderful daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren whom she cherished.
She was a faithful member of Splunge Baptist Church and she loved the Lord. A caring, loving, independent woman, she was always busy. Whether it was spending time with her family or doing various tasks around her home to include, quilting, sewing, working in her flower beds, Sue never ceased to amaze her family with her energy. She enjoyed life, treasured time with her precious husband and was proud of the man her son had become. Country music and gospel music always made her smile and once in a blue moon she would slow down to just read some good books. She and Donald liked to travel and see different places and they made so many great memories together.
A great mother and grandmother, Sue will be so missed by her family and her friends. They all have comfort knowing that she is resting peacefully in the presence of His righteousness. We will be forever grateful for all the great times and cherished wisdom you passed on.
The family would like to extend a special thanks for the great care given to Sue by the staff of Generations Senior Living Center while she resided there for several years.
Left behind to treasure her memories are her son, Kevin Johnson (Alison), Saltillo; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Caroline Johnson, Saltillo; many friends as well.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Johnson; two brothers, Felton Stanford and Hilton Stanford.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Lann Cemetery, Splunge Community, MS, with Bro. Jimmy McFatter officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening, October 29, 2024 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home in Amory, MS.
Memorials in honor of her memory may be made to Sanctuary hospice House in Tupelo, MS.
