Amory –Nell Howell English, 87, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Golden Living Nursing Center, Amory. Born on September 13, 1928, in Amory, MS, she was the daughter of the late A. H. and Lorette Tubb Howell.
She graduated from Amory High School with the class of 1946. On July 15, 1954, she married the love of her life William “Billy” English. She worked at McCutcheon-Banks Furniture, Dr. Joe Raper’s Dentistry office and retired from Security Bank in February of 1993. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Amory which she loved dearly and made many lifelong friends there. Her family was most important to her in life and she enjoyed spending time with them especially her nieces, nephews and their families. Nell was a lot of fun and full of laughter and always had pets which were a lot of company to her. She loved M&M’s and always had a stash of candy that she would sometime share with the children. She enjoyed cooking and could make a good chocolate pie. One of her specialties was her Holiday Asparagus Casserole. In her free time, Nell loved shopping, playing bridge and Conasta, and being involved in the Fidelia Club.
Survivors include her brother, Dale Howell (Beverly), Hatley; nieces and nephews, Vaughn Dale (Leisa) Howell, Hatley, Michael (Stephanie) Howell, Memphis, TN, Cathie (Bryan) Wilkinson, Hatley, Susan (Walt) Willis, Amory, Terrell Howell, Hatley, Ray Murphree, Wren, Rusty Murphree, Wren; sister-in-laws, Geneva Howell, Tupelo, Virginia Murphree, Wren; great nieces and nephews, Callie (Levi) Northington and Darby; Caroline (Wes)Boock; Wes Wilkinson, Aynslee and Whitt Willis; Abigail and Audrey Howell; Rocky Howell and family; Joseph Howell and family;
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Fagan Howell and wife, Alvis; Earl Howell; Nephew, Alan Howell; great nephew, Lance Howell.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 3 PM, Monday, April 4, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Dr. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Vaughn Dale Howell, Michael Howell, Curtis Lewellen, Tommy Tapp, Jerry Maxcy, Ray Murphree, Terrell Howell, Rocky Howell, and Joseph Howell.
Visitation will be Monday, from 1 – 3 PM until the service hour at the funeral home.
