Myrel Basham

Nettleton – Myrel Basham 88, died on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at North MS Medical Center. Born on September 3, 1924, in New Albany, she was a daughter of the late Roy A. and Maggie Mae Parish Cobb.

Mrs. Basham was a graduate of Ingomar High School. On October 3, 1942, she married Horace Basham. Retiring as a supervisor on September 1, 1989, from Monroe Trouser, she had worked for Amory Garment and Wilson Manufacturing. A member of Central Grove Baptist Church, Mrs. Basham had served in years past as Training Union teacher and was active with the youth program. A sweet, wonderful, caring, and giving lady who was always positive, her life centered around her Lord, family and friends, and her dogs, Lady and Bouncy. Mrs. Basham enjoyed gardening, crocheting, Spiritual music, and watching Charles Stanley and Adrian Rogers on television.

She is survived by her daughter, Joni Cornelius, Tupelo; sister, Ruth Day, New Albany; grandchildren, Kim Webster Thompson, Amory and Mel Webster (Glenda), Wren; great-grandchildren, Meghan Webster, and David Alan Thompson; several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Ricky and Peggy Carmack, Scott and Brandi Lancaster, her little buddy Keller “Diddle Diddle” Lancaster, John Earl Smith, Dale and Vicki Langford, and Larry and Diane Gibson.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Vera Mae Basham; and brothers, B. T., S. D. and Otto Cobb.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 PM, Sunday, June 30 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Smithey and Bro. Bill Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Chad White, Jeffrey King, George Adams, Jr., Jimmy Hall, Rick Carmack, and Dale Langford. Honorary pallbearers will be John Smith, Larry Gibson, Michael Adams, Wes Morton, Ronnie Gadd, Alan Boozer, Corey Kimble, and her nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Saturday at the funeral home.
