Minnie Lee Guthrie Hughes 94, dearly loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Minnie Lee was born April 4, 1919 in Nettleton, Mississippi to Johnnie Verdell Guthrie and Donna Viola Pierce Guthrie. Minnie married William "Bill" Arnold Hughes November 15, 1938.

They lived and worked in Kenosha, WI most of their lives where they raised their two sons. Upon retirement from American Motors in 1980 she and her husband moved back to Mississippi. In later years Minnie lived with her son Tim who became her caregiver. They moved to North Carolina in 2012 to be near her grandson Michael and his family. Minnie loved tending to her flowers and vegetable garden, spending time with her family and watching current events on TV.

Minnie leaves behind one son, Tim C. Hughes of North Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Buelow, FL; four granddaughters, Sherry (Ronnie) Gustafson, WI, Libby (Jim) Raymond, WI , Michelle (Dan) Penny, CA and Christy (Carlos) Antillano, FL; four grand-sons, Michael (Jessica) Hughes, NC, Len (Sandra) Hughes, TN , Larry Hughes Jr. "Rusty", WI and Ryan (Yolanda) Klem, TX; five great granddaughters Lindsey Penny and Savannah and Tabitha Wixforth, Ashley and Samantha Klem; nine great grandsons Ethan, Zachery, Laken, Dustin, and Logan Hughes, Isaiah and Dustin Wixforth, Ryan Klem Jr. and Nicholas Antillano. Minnie also leaves behind one sister-in-law, Juanita Funderburk of Amory, and many nieces and nephews.

Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill; her son, Larry Basil Hughes Sr.; her grandson Tim C Hughes Jr.; six brothers, Eli, Earl Oliver, Lee Russell, Robert Pete, Trice and Willie V. "Jimmie" Guthrie.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM Friday February 21, 2014 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Dean Smith officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from Noon until the time of service on Friday. Burial will be in Haughton Memorial Park.
