Becker—Mickey Ray Cox, 82, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Monroe Regional Medical Center. Born on June 12, 1938, he was the son of Ora and Jim S. Cox.
Mickey was born and raised in the Monroe County area in Mississippi. He was of the Southern Baptist faith. He was a talented carpenter, and assisted in building the Tenn-Tom Waterway and the locks in Aberdeen. Mickey worked for several years at the Columbus Air Force base. A good, hardworking man, he provided for his family and loved them dearly.
Mickey loved the great outdoors, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys when he wasn’t hard at work. He also tended his own vegetable garden and took great pride in growing his own vegetables. He was a devoted father and a loving husband to the late Doris Cox. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mickey is survived by his sons, Rickey Cox, Stevie Cox, both of Becker; sister, Joann Haines (Benny); grandchildren, Bridgette Cox, Brandon Lee Cox; great-granddaughter, Ella Cox; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Dodd Cox.
A small prayer service will be held at Young Memorial Gardens in Smithville, MS on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 9:30A.M. with Brittany Eakes officiating. Burial will be in Young Memorial Gardens in Smithville, MS.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department in honor of the fallen officer, Dylan Pickle; and to the families of both Deputy Dylan Pickle and Deputy Zach Wilbanks who is still recovering.
