Amory – Michael Daniel Phelps, 53, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016 at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo. Born on February 9, 1963, in Amory, he was the son of the late William Daniel and Lois Harvey Phelps.
Michael attended Smithville High School. He worked at Jesco/Cooper Tire for 15 years and at the City of Amory for 15 years. He married the love of his life, Lana Spann on December 31, 1985. Together they were blessed with two daughters. Michael was a member of North Boulevard Christian Church in Amory and the most important things to him in his life was his family, friends and Jesus. He really enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching old western movies with his grandchildren. He was passionate about giving to and supporting the National Kidney Foundation. He had many close friends from work with whom he would hunt and hang out with on many occasions. Some of these include Phillip Cox Jr.; Marti and Jr. Sandlin; Debbie and Mike Collums; John Carithers; Mark Rienhart; Joey and Kim Presley; Bobby Meadows; and Teddy Armstrong. Micheal will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Survivors include his best friend, Lana Phelps; daughters, Kayla Plunkett (Tony), Amory, Leanna Sanders, Amory; sisters, Anita Dabbs (Coy), Smithville, Kim Estis (BJ), Smithville; brother, Roger Phelps (Teresa), Wren; grandchildren, Tonya Plunkett, Kayden Sanders, Savannah Plunkett, Madiyson Sanders, Hunter Plunkett, Conner Plunkett, Dalton Sanders; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-dad, Red Harvey; his in-laws, Anna Louis and Bennie Spann; his granddaughter, Karley Jade Sanders; and his grandmother, Lorener Sullivan.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, July 1, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Ferman Anderson officiating. Burial will following New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony Plunkett, Justin House, Dewy Guyton, Bubba Humbers, Rodger Phelps Sr., Albert Young, Chris Hayes, and Lee Kilgo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rodger Phelps Jr., Eric Plunkett, O’Neal Freeman, Jr. Sandlin, Claude Lewis, Joey Presley, Coy Dabbs, and Elbert West.
Visitation will be from 5–8 PM, Thursday, June 30, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
