Merle Vaughan

AMORY - Merle Hill Vaughan, 102, died Nov. 12, 2010, at River Place Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 12, 1907, in Shannon to Victor and Beatrice Hill. Better known as "Mommie or Vaughnie," she was born and raised in Shannon. She then moved with her family to Amory and had lived there ever since. She worked as a housemother at Millsaps, a clerk at M.E. Green's dry good store, a clerk at Gilmore Shoes and a financial secretary at the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of First United Methodist church in Amory, where she worked many years with the youth choir and then as a member of the adult chancel choir. She believed that her family, immediate and extended, was her greatest legacy. She was an avid collector of angels, and she made the best biscuits on Saturday morning that anyone could ever imagine. Most importantly, she lived her life as a faithful servant of God.
