Merle Justice Vaughan

Amory – Merle Justice Vaughan, 97, died on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Golden Living Center, Amory. Born on September 18, 1916, in Itawamba County, she was a daughter of the late Arch C. and Lenora Weaver Justice.

Mrs. Vaughan attended Hatley High School. On December 24, 1933, she married Herbert Vaughan. Before becoming a homemaker, she worked as a seamstress with Wilson Manufacturing and as a clerk at Vaughan’s Superette in Hatley. A Proverbs 31 lady who put others first, Mrs. Vaughan was a life-long member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ and was active in the Ladybug Ministry, making bears for children in the hospital. Loving, compassionate, and determined, she enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and flower gardening, especially growing and tending to her day lilies.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Howell (Dale), Hatley; sons, Jimmy Vaughan (Janice), Hatley and Danny Vaughan (Bonnie), Amory; brother, Arch Justice, Amory; grandchildren, Connie Vaughan, Kittie Edwards (Larry), Vaughn Howell (Leisa), Tami Hester (Tony), Michael Howell (Stephanie), Cathie Wilkinson (Bryan), Jay Vaughan (Teresa), Susan Willis (Walt), Marla Chism (Jeff), Courtney Pounds (Jacob), and Cameron Vaughan; 17 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Vaughan on April 10, 2002; sisters, Lena Reece and Mavolyn Vaughan Lanmon; brothers, Marless, Arlin, Eugene, and Harvey Justice; and great-grandchildren, Tabitha Edwards and Lance Howell.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, June 16 at Christian Chapel Church of Christ with Mr. Jim Chamblee and Mr. Marshall Eubanks, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.

Visitation will be from 2 – 5 PM, Sunday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory. Mrs. Vaughan will lie-in-state at the church on Monday from 1 PM until the service hour.
