Bigbee – Melvin E. Benton, 65, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Sanctuary Hospice. Born on April 20, 1949, in Donalsonville, Georgia, he was a son of the late Albert and Ethal Taylor Benton.
Growing up, Mr. Benton attended school in Donalsonville, Georgia. He worked many years as an Engineer, in iron works, with Mitchell Steel Manufacturing. He was a Baptist and the most important thing in his life was his family. For 25 years, he enjoyed spending time with his close friend Donna Parker. He was an active man and liked to hunt, fish, and doing things with his grandkids.
Survivors include his daughters, Donnie Thornton (Mark), Amory, Connie Parker, Amory, and Lisa Myatt (Willie), Amory; brother, Kenneth Benton (Ludly) Dothan, AL; grandchildren, Pierce Thornton, Darron Thornton (Megan), Amanda Knight, Alonzo Myatt (Kristen), Shon Myatt (Lane); great-grandchildren, Linley and Emma Thornton, Cheyenne Keith; several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his dear friend, Donna Parker and his sister, Sarah Ruth Walker.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, February 1, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Ricky Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Pierce Thornton, Darron Thornton, Alonzo Myatt, and Shon Myatt.
Visitation will be from 11 AM – 1:50 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.
