Melba Edgil Nerren

Amory – Melba Edgil Nerren, 88, died on Friday, December 20, 2013, at her daughter’s residence in Brookshire, TX. Born on March 2, 1925, in Walker County, AL, she was a daughter of the late John and Cora Barbree Edgil.

Mrs. Nerren grew up and attended school in Walker County, AL, and attended college in Texas. Working as a seamstress in area garment plants and working for Dr. Edgil, she was also a claims processer with American General Insurance, Galveston, TX. Guided by God and her strong faith in Him, Mrs. Nerren was member of First Baptist Church and taught the Ladies’ Sunday school class for ten years. A nurturing and generous caretaker who was kind and independent, she enjoyed being with family, taking great pride in her yard, she also enjoyed tending her flowers, cooking and eating her famous fried chicken, and watching preachers on television when she was unable to attend church.

Survivors include her daughters, Joan Giles (Harlon), Brookshire, TX, and Jane Turner, Starke, FL; sons, Mike Nerren, Ft. Worth, TX, and Sammy Nerren (Kathy), Amory; brother, John M. Edgil (Zelda), Biloxi; grandchildren, Michael Attaway (Cindy), Jackson, TN, Tami Grove, Houston, TX, Stephen Sanford, Jeffrey Turner, Miles Nerren, Tupelo, Grant Nerren, Madison Francis, Mary Paige Hyland, Sara Nerren, Aberdeen, Eric Nerren, Ft. Worth, TX, and Crystal Nerren, Ft. Worth, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Gilbert Sanford and Floyd Nerren; daughter, Elaine Halliburton; & grandson, Tyler 'TJ' Nerren and a brother, Dr. Melvin Edgil.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, December 23 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy McFatter officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Miles Nerren, Grant Nerren, Madison Francis, Dr. Richard Edgil, Trey Edgil, Tommy Love and Steve Palmer.

Visitation will be from 10 – 10:50 AM, Monday at the funeral home.
