Amory - Maxine Carter, 98, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on February 2, 1917, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Vanna Webb Rollins.
She attended Bigbee School and was an active citizen in the Bigbee Community. She married the love of her life, Hurston Glenn Carter on October 25, 1941. Mrs. Carter worked at Wilson Garment Company, Glenn Manufacturing and Blue Bell. Guided by her faith, she was the oldest member of Cason Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher. Very proud of and giving lots of love to her children, grands, and great-grandchildren, she enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, and Gospel music. Having a love for all children, she was passionate about visiting and calling those who were sick.
Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Monaghan (Daniel) and son, Jerry Carter (Debbie) of Amory; grandchildren, Amber Smith, Cory Carter, Chas. Monaghan, Sara Camp and Caleb Monaghan; great-grandchildren, Cayden Smith, Colbie Grace Smith, and Carter Camp; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son; sister, Statha Bunch; brothers, Herbert and B. D. Rollins; and two nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, February 15 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Sammy McMillen and Bro. Rob Sargent officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry and Cory Carter; Daniel, Chas. and Caleb Monaghan; and Jason Camp.
Visitation will be from 1 – 2:50 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.
