Carolina Community – Mavis Alline Simmons Conwill, 77, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo. Born on February 6, 1940 in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Offie Lotus and Gertrude Alline Addington Simmons.
After graduating high school with Smithville High School’s Class of 1958, Mavis attended Itawamba Junior College. She met the love of her life, Edsel Conwill, and they married on June 16, 1962. Together they were blessed with two beautiful daughters. Mavis was a stay home wife and mother who devoted her life to her family. Mavis enjoyed spending time with her bunko group. She was in the same group for over 50 years. She enjoyed games of any type, and in her free time, she especially loved to travel. Her bags were always packed and ready for a new adventure. Mavis was a member of Cotton Gin Port Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), and she was also a member of the Addington Association.
Mavis loved her family first and foremost. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, niece, friend, and neighbor. She especially loved her role as a wonderful and spoiling Nana. She took great pleasure spending time doting on her grandsons. She instilled in her family a love for Christ and a servant’s heart for others. Mavis cherished her husband, Edsel, and they were married for 55 years. She gained much of her joy while caring for her children and family. Mavis will be missed dearly, and she is reunited with her loving husband in heaven. Together they will ready their heavenly home for the day they will be reunited with their loved ones.
