Amory— Mattie Lou McCollum, 84, passed away surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born in Smithville on May 23, 1934, she was the daughter of Leonard Lafayette and Effie Lou Nash Cowley.
Mattie attended Smithville schools. She worked as a seamstress with Amory Garment for over 30 years. Mattie was a faithful member of East Amory Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was always active and never met a stranger. Mattie loved spending time with her family and visiting her friends. She enjoyed sewing in her free time, and loved to cook and eat delicious meals. Mattie was known for her charm and sweet nature. She will forever be remembered and missed by her loved ones.

McCollum (Lois), Daphne, AL; son-in-law, Kenny Powell (Carol); grandchildren, Kendall Powell (Amanda), Wesley McCollum, Shelley McCollum Bowen (Aaron), Eithan Morris; great-grandchildren, Kerrigan Bowen, Jonah Bowen, Kalei Powell, Gena Jordan, Brandi Carroll, Alora Powell, Tyler Towery; great-great-grandchildren, Alice Jordan, Oliver Jordan; brother, Earl Wayne Cowley, Smithville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Doug McCollum; daughter, Doris Ann Powell; grandson, Christian McCollum; and brother, J.L. Cowley.
A funeral service will be held at 12PM on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory, with Bro. Roger Akers officiating. Burial will follow at Haughton Memorial Park in Amory. Pallbearers will include Wesley McCollum, Eithan Morris, Jay Cowley, Kenny Powell, Larry Kuykendall, and Drake Carroll.
Visitation will be Saturday morning, from 10AM until the service hour at noon.
