Amory – Mattie “Mat” Faulkner, 87, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Gilmore Memorial RMC. Born on July 9, 1927, in Cincinnati, OH, she was a daughter of the late Polk Hogan and Beulah Williams Hogan Smith.
She was a graduate of Hatley High School, Class of 1945. On August 20, 1945, she married Marvin Wendell Faulkner. After working for Sears for several years, Mat was a Medical Records clerk with Gilmore Memorial Hospital, retiring after many years of service. Very religious, she was a devout member of Amory Church of Christ. Caring, selfless and very giving, her life was guided by her faith in God and her love for family. Mat enjoyed Country music and staying in touch with former officers and their families of MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
Survivors include her sons, Butch Faulkner (Ann), Baton Rouge, LA, and Phil Faulkner (Denise), Amory; grandchildren, Jason Faulkner (Diane), Bryan Faulkner (Rachel) and Phillip Faulkner; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ethan, Jimmy and Jack Thomas; several nieces, nephews and special friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita Harris; and brothers, Fred Hogan and George Albert Smith.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, December 23 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Mr. Philip Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kelly Faulkner, Roger Pierce, Hubert Howard, Steve Hunt, Wayne Howell and Jimmy Vaughan. Honorary pallbearers will be MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and Hatley Police Department.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
