Amory— Mattie Sue Kimbrough Lindsey, 92, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at North Mississippi Medical Center-Gilmore in Amory. Born in Quincy on February 7, 1927, she was a daughter of John Wesley and Carrie Ball Thompson.
Mattie attended Quincy schools. Throughout her life, she was a homemaker, and she worked as a seamstress with Amory Garment and as a nursing assistant at Golden Living Nursing Center. Mattie was a faithful member of Freedom Baptist Church in Smithville and loved to share in fellowship with her church family.
Mattie was a God-fearing Southern lady. She loved her church and her family and cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She loved everybody and would do anything to help someone in need. Mattie had a compassionate heart for others and never spoke a negative word about anyone. She enjoyed housekeeping, baking, and cooking meals for everyone. She was always quick to share the food she made with friends and family. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting and sewing.
Mattie loved her family most of all and took great pride in watching them grow up and raise their own families. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Mattie is survived by her daughters, Brenda Irvin (Jerry), Amory, Judy Luna (Greg), Collierville, TN; sons, Aubrey Dale Kimbrough (Dot), Jumpertown, George Randall Kimbrough, Amory; grandchildren, Jeffrey Irvin (Denae), Cindy Hartman, Greg Michael Luna III; great-grandchildren, Caitlin Irvin, Cassidy Irvin, Audrey Noy, Chelsea Best, Mae Elizabeth Williams (Xavier), Madison Sloan Luna, Kendall Hartman, Dalton Luna; great-great-grandchildren, Chloe Elizabeth Hood, Emma Kate Hood, Lola Kate Noy; sister, Ruth Miller, Amory; brother, J.C. Thompson, Aberdeen; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, nieces Nelly Phillips and Bernice Woolridge, and neighbor, Judy Wise.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings.
A funeral service will be held for Mattie at 3:30 PM on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, with Bro. Scott George officiating. Burial will follow at Durrett Cemetery in Quincy, MS. Pallbearers will include Jeffrey Irvin, Dalton Luna, Greg Michael Luna III, Anthony McNeese, Herman Mitchell, and Linnie.
Visitation will be from 2:30 PM until the service hour at the funeral home on Thursday.
