Mary Elizabeth Dollar "Tippa" Wamble

Wren - Mary Elizabeth "Tippa" Dollar Wamble, 99, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Gilmore Memorial RMC, Amory. Born on June 9, 1915, in Wren, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Lizzie Matthews Dollar.

She married Henry Edward Wamble, Sr., in October 1934. They had two children, Henry Edward "Eddie" Wamble, Jr., and Sue Wamble Wax.

Having lived through the Great Depression, WWI, and WWII, Tippa was a woman of strength and perseverance who continued to be a lady of grace and dignity up until her last day. Mrs. Wamble was the first librarian at the Wren Library as well as a librarian for the Book Mobile that served Northeast Mississippi. Before becoming the head librarian at the Amory City Library in 1965, she first worked as an assistant librarian at the Old City Hall location. Mrs. Wamble retired in 1980.

Tippa was a member of the Wren Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and played the piano. She was a member of the Wren Cultural Ladies Club, the Wren RCDC, the Amory Fortnightly Club, the Wren Presbyterian Women's Club, the Wren Home Demonstration Club, and the Delphian Literary Club. She wrote "The Wren News" for "The Amory Advertiser" for decades as well as "A Place Called Wren." She co-authored "The History of Monroe County."

For many years, she read aloud to the children of Monroe County as the voice of Story Hour on WAMY radio station. She loved all things "Wren." She especially enjoyed family reunions and visiting with her family and friends under her pecan trees while serving sweet tea and lemonade.

She is survived by a daughter, Sue Wamble Wax (Buddy), Dothan, AL; son, Henry Edward “Eddie” Wamble, Jr., Wren; sister, Ruth Cook (Frank), Germantown, and Doris Cooley, Arizona; grandchildren, Kathy Wamble Nerren (Sam), Kaye Wamble Hannaford (John), Amy Dollar Wamble Jones, Stephanie Wax Beckett (Bill), and John Wamble Wax; great-grandchildren, Mary Paige Hyland (Steven), Miles Nerren, John Edward Hannaford, Madison Francis, Grant Nerren, Anna Elizabeth Hannaford, Tanner Poole, Parker Poole, Henry Beckett, and Emily Beckett.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, William Edward Wamble; daughter-in-law, Eloise Jackson Wamble; sisters, Martha Fitzpatrick, Sissy McDowell; and brother, Raymond “Mutt” Dollar.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, February 23, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Mr. Staub Halbert and Mr. Williard Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Madison Francis; Grant and Miles Nerren; Tanner and Parker Poole; Jed Hannaford; Henry Beckett; and John Wamble Wax.

Visitation will be from 5 - 7 PM, Sunday, February 22 and from 11:30 AM – 1:20 PM, Monday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
