Greenwood Springs – Mary A. Thomas, 82, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2015, at River Place Nursing Center. Born on September 4, 1932, in Aberdeen, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Baker Jones.
Mrs. Thomas was a graduate of Greenwood Springs School. On June 10, 1950, she married her soulmate, Carl Thomas. For 32 years, Mrs. Thomas served as Postmaster at Greenwood Springs and was a member of the National Association of Postal Supervisors. She was a member of Greenwood Springs United Methodist Church. Loving, happy, caring, funny and the sweetest lady, Mrs. Thomas cherished her family and enjoyed being with people. Her hobbies were fishing with her husband, flower gardening, working in the yard, and visiting Downey’s Grocery.
Survivors include her daughter, Janette West (Dan), Bartahatchie; son, Eddie Thomas (Cheryl), Amory; sister, Margaret Young, Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Danette Starks (William), Alison Fair (Chris), Kyle Thomas, Joni Edmonson (David), Tiffany Jones (Antonio), Jennifer Sloan (Robin), and Chrystal Parker (Marty); great-grandchildren, Pallas and Emmie Fair; Sadie, Sophie and Sam Starks; Annalee and Alexis Jones; Riley and Olivia Edmonson; nieces & nephews, Phyliss Miller; Ronald, Pam, Lisa, and Ken Jones; Pat, Karen, and Tim Young; and Carol Eidson.
In addition to her father and husband of nearly 53 years, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Jones, and a half-sister, Dorothy Brewer.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, April 18 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Matthew McGrew and Bro. Redus Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Crenshaw Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Jones, Ronald Jones, James Whitlock, Ronnie Boozer, Jimmy Arnold, Sammy Atkins, and Danny Jones.
Visitation will be from 1 – 2:50 PM, Saturday at the funeral home.
