Mary Lou Tate – Amory
Amory – Mary Lou Crawford Tate, 92, died Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Tupelo. Born on November 29, 1917, in Hickory Flat, MS, she was the daughter of the late Lemuel M and Ana Ella Eddings Crawford.
Mary Lou moved to Amory in 1921, where she was a graduate of Amory Schools. She worked at Prairie Ordance in Prairie from 1942 until 1945 as a telegraph operator in Holly Springs until she married. After her husband died in 1952, she moved back to Amory and worked at Columbus Air Force Base at the Base Supply for 25 years before her retirement.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Amory and loved working for her church and was known as “the bread lady” She was on the Board of Trustees for a period at her church. She enjoyed crocheting and collecting antiques.
She is survived by her brother, Wayne Crawford (Ada) of Orange, CA; sister, Jeanette Windham (Joe) of Shannon; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Quinton Tate; two sisters, Ardath Bankester and Leola Morgan.
A Celebration of Life service for Mary Lou Tate will be held at 2 PM, Sunday at E. E, Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Rev. Warren Coile officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Herman Hester, Dr. Richard Hollis, Phil Roberts, Tommy Crook and Frank Durrett. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Gleaners Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church, Amory.
Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM, Saturday, and from 8:30 AM until the service hour on Sunday at the funeral home.
