Amory – Mary Christine “Chris” Burke Stanford, 81, died on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Oak Tree Plantation. Born on September 24, 1930, in Boston, MA, she was a daughter of the late Frank William and Williamina Grant Saunders.
After receiving her LPN degree, Mrs. Stanford went to work in San Diego. It was there she met and married her husband, Archie Stanford, Jr., on October 8, 1950. Mrs. Stanford worked at Gilmore Memorial Hospital for several years. When they moved back to Amory from Bangkok, she helped her husband in the plumbing business. A woman of faith, Mr. Stanford was a member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church. Outgoing and having a joy for people, she was passionate about supporting her church and caring for others as a nurse. Mrs. Stanford enjoyed Classical music, traveling with her husband overseas while he was in the US Air Force, and to the beaches in Florida. She loved to talk and was a certified scuba diving instructor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Friday, February 3 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church with Father Peterson and Sister Lael Niblick serving as officiants. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
She is survived by a son, Ricky Stanford, Amory; grandson and his family, Cameron Stanford, Tupelo; sister, Joanie Tripple, Lowell, MA; sisters-in-law, Diane Sindle, Biloxi, Nancy Stockton, Amory, and Martha Stegall (Lionel), Smithville; brothers-in-law, Victor “Sonny” Stanford (Linda), Amory, Charles Wayne Stanford, Florida, and Bobby Stanford (Lola), Amory; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Stanford; sister, Marcel Gosselin; brother, James G. Tripple; and brother-in-law, Jack Stanford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are given to St. Helen’s Catholic Church, PO Box 97, Amory, MS 38821
