Born on October 7, 1915, in Wise County, TX, she was a daughter of the late Joel Acker and Alice Lucinda Sanders Irvin.Moving to Monroe County from Texas, Mrs. Smith graduated as the salutatorian and was the Senior Class president at Hamilton High School, Class or 1935. She married James David Smith on November 28, 1935. Retiring in 1977, Mrs. Smith worked as a seamstress with Glenn Manufacturing and Blue Bell. A very caring, helpful, and giving lady, she was a member of Smithville Church of Christ. Mrs. Smith’s life was guided by her faith, family, and love for children. Being a good steward of her resources, she had an open door where people were always welcome at her home. Passionate about cooking, she enjoyed inviting people over to eat. Mrs. Smith is fondly remembered by her family as “Gramby” and for her “left-hand” hot biscuits; for her love of Church music, quilting, traveling, and working in the yard; for her determination and strong-will; for riding horses; and for assisting folks who needed help. She is survived by her daughters, June Boyd, Hatley, Peggy Hoots (Doug), Hatley, Joyce McDill (Gerald), Vicksburg, Jeanette Chism (Larry), Tupelo, Ellen Hall (Tom), Hatley, and Dianna Smith, New Albany; sons, James Irvin Smith (Mary Nell), Torrance, CA, Tommie Smith (Clara), Hatley, and Sammy Dale Smith (Anne), Hatley; sister-in-law, Reba Irvin, Lackey; grandchildren, Steven Smith, Leslie Smith, LaNelle Ackerman (Danny), Allen Boyd (Elaine), Sherri Anderson (Garland), Barry Smith (Patricia), Portia Young (Steve), Terry Smith (Deandra), Keven Smith, Robin Smith (Rhonda), Michelle Smith, Allison Smith, Renee Vineyard (Steve), Van Hoots (Alisha), Misty Hammack (Willie), Ragan Freeman, Cristy Wilbanks (Greg), Shanon Christopher, Thomas Hall, III, (Kim), Micah Hall (Carrie), Aimee Hall, Rachel Nolan (Allen), David Ward (Ashley), and Jessica Drumm (Steve); 40 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James David Smith on October 25, 1973; son, David Glenn Smith; great-grandson, Justin David Smith; and son-in-law, Charles Boyd.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Friday, November 11 at Amory Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Allen Boyd, Barry, Terry, and Kevin Smith, Van Hoots, Thomas Hall, III, Micah Hall, David Ward, and Robin Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday at Amory Church of Christ.
