Mary Lee Roberts, 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Manor Care in Sarasota, Florida, on Sunday, October 25, 2015. Born on June 23, 1919, in Smithville, she was a daughter of the late Ophelia Bailey.
She was raised on a farm in the Smithville community until she graduated from high school. As a young woman with an adventurous spirit, she moved to Zion, Illinois, where she got married and raised two daughters, Pamela and Peggy. She was the owner/operator of Princess Beauty Salon for many years in Zion where she enjoyed doing hair and making life-long friends with her salon employees and customers. Mary also worked part-time as a waitress at Ray Radigan’s Restaurant in Kenosha, Wisconsin, for several years. She was not only a hard-worker, but loved to cook and bake and was one of the best! Every Christmas season, her basement would overflow with holiday goodies to share with loved ones. After a car accident in Mississippi in 2002, she moved to Florida to be closer to her oldest daughter, Pam.
She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Roberts Shoff of Venice, Florida, and Peggy Roberts Rocha of Escalon, California; her granddaughters, Amber Rocha Wolak and Coral Rocha; her great-granddaughter, Skylar Wolak; her nieces, Carolyn Hargett and Linda Webb; and many other close family members.
Mary was predeceased by her mother, Ophelia Bailey and a sister, Frankie Pierce.
