Amory, Miss.—Mary Halyard Morgan, 88, died on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Oak Tree Plantation in Amory. Born June 29, 1924 in Memphis, TN, she was a daughter of the late Leroy and Willa Johnson Halyard.
She married Thomas E. Morgan in 1941; he survives. Before her retirement, she worked at Security Bank. She was instrumental in starting and leading the Monroe County Baptist Senior Adult Program and was the chairman of the Amory Triple L Club from its inception until 2012. A woman of faith, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Amory where she sang in the church choir and she was very active in various women’s organizations in Amory. A member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she was a recipient of the 50-year pin. She enjoyed traveling.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2013 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Dr. Allen Simpson and Rev. Jimmy McFatter officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Thomas E. Morgan of Amory; one daughter, Carolyne Reece (John) of West Point; 3 grandchildren, John T. Reece, II (Kimberly), Jeff Reece (Stephanie), and Morgan Lee Reece (Ronda); and 5 great grandchildren, Justin Reece, Tucker Reece, Campbell Reece, John T. Reece, III, and Dane Reece. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Glen Bingham, Gerald Marion, Lester Cagle, Frank Finney, and Bro. Jim Harrington. Honorary pallbearers will be Wilma Stockton Sunday School Class and the Triple L Club.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. on Sunday evening and will continue until service time on Monday.
