Mary Alice Harris

Mary Alice Harris, 83, departed from this life on January 22, 2025, in Aberdeen, Mississippi and is now fully healed and safely resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born on February 16, 1941, in Monroe County, Mary was a wonderful example of love and devotion, always demonstrating a spirit of service that touched numerous hearts throughout her life.

Commencing her journey of employment at the age of 15, Mary dedicated herself to her work at Amory Garment for over five decades. She followed this with a compassionate role as a housekeeper for Golden Living from 2001 to 2016, where her kindness and hard work were evident daily. Her career was not just about employment; it was an extension of her loving nature, showcasing her commitment to serve those around her.

Mary's personality radiated warmth; she was a loving, caring, and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She married Ellis Harris on December 29,1956 and they were blessed with two daughters and grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored. Throughout her life, Mary was actively involved in her community. She was a proud member of the Eastern Star Chapter #41 in Amory, Mississippi, and deeply involved in the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in Detroit, Alabama. Her faith and community engagement enriched her life and the lives of those around her.

Mary found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was tending to her beloved yard and flower garden or just listening to old country and gospel music. She enjoyed collecting live and ceramic chickens, which brought her great happiness. Her favorite sayings were "Them Blasted Chickens" and "It will be all right," reflecting both her playful spirit and her unwavering optimism in the face of life’s trials.

Family was the heart of her existence. She showed unconditional love to her daughters, Mary Frances Clements (Ronnie) and Rosie Kay House whom she leaves behind as well as precious grandchildren, Ellis Clements (Jennifer), Dallas Clements, and Jessie House; great-grandchildren, Cori (Evie), Lauren (Camron), Landon, Natalie, Owen, Penelope, Marshall, Layla, Isaac, Myli Jae, Landry; and great-great-grandchildren, Onyx, Victoria, and Archer; her brother, Ray West (Charlotte); along with a host of nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.

Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ellis Ray Harris, with whom she shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. She was also reunited with her beloved parents, Grady and Alice Johnson West, her sister Kate Poole, and brothers Elvis "Boss," Harvey Lee, Grady "Bud" Clayton, Roy Curtis, and James "BoBo" West. Each of these departed loved ones contributed to the beautiful tapestry of her life, and their memories will forever be cherished.
