Amory – Mary Ellen Pennington Northington, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at her residence. Born on July 15, 1936, in Monroe County, MS, she was a daughter of the late William Dewey and Rosie Ellen McDonald Plunkett.

Mary grew up in Becker and attended Becker Schools. She married Bobby Gene Pennington on July 22, 1960 and they were blessed with two daughters. She worked at Monroe Trousers in Smithville for over 30 years. Her husband Bobby passed away on May 3, 1985. She loved the Lord and was passionate about His Word and loved going to church. She was a faithful member of East Amory Baptist Church. She was very kind, witty, loving but determined in what she believed in. Later in life, she was blessed with a second husband, Ed Northington and they were married on December 7, 1994. They were married for 12 years prior to his death on January 15, 2007. Mary cherished her family and was a very giving person.

She loved family get-togethers especially the holidays where she was always in charge of making the dressing and green beans. Mary loved to see all of the children laugh and have a good time. She was always the life of the party. Her hobbies were watching the Hallmark Channel, listening to gospel Music, traveling to the beach and to Gatlinburg at Christmas time. Mary was a crafty person who was talented at making flower arrangements. She also enjoyed reading her Bible and watching hummingbirds eat out of her many bird feeders. Mary loved collecting birds and especially loved red birds. She was passionate about giving to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and she will be sorely missed.

Survivors include her daughters, Brenda Brazil (David), Amory, and Mary Jean Cash (Jon), Saltillo, MS; grandchildren, Allison Swan (Patrick), Amory; Tim and Tobie Cash, Saltillo; great-grandchildren, Audrianna and Cooper Swan; step-daughter, Shelia N. (Jerry) Rasbury, Gattman; step-sons, Jim (Judy) Northington, Wayne (Delores) Northington, and Johnny (Debra) Northington, all of Gattman; sister, Lavada Sanders, River Oaks, TX; brother, Bud Plunkett (Peggy), Amory; many nieces, nephews, and special friends; step-grandchildren, Chad Rasbury; Dana (Mike) Kendrick; Levi (Callie), Dewayne (Claire), & Ryan Northington; Shannon (Phil) Prewitt; Andrea Rutherford; Keisha Northington; Hannah (Jeff) Herndon; and Jon Michael Northington; Brooke Weeks; step-great-grandchildren, Religh Beth and Ty Weeks; Christian & Kynzie; Cole Kendrick; Brady & Andrew Prewitt; Anna Kate Kendrick; Darby, Jon Brantley, Jon Britton & Sophie-Maxx Northington; & Iva Katherine Herndon

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Bobby Gene and Ed; brothers, Tom Plunkett and Robert Earl Plunkett; nieces, Linda Roberts, Delores Dabbs, and Peggy Myers; nephews, ButchPlunkett, William Plunkett, Joe Grady Pennington, Bennie Pennington, Charles Pennington, Jr., and Kenny Harris.

Her Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, May 13, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro.Roger Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Pennington, Donald Ray Pennington, Joe Benton, Tommy Plunkett, Donald Wayne Plunkett, and Bobby Price.

Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at the funeral home in Amory.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
