Amory – Mary Chloe Burney Dodd, 92, died on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born on August 26, 1918, in Kilmichael, MS, she was a daughter of the late Francis Monroe and Lula Alabama Kemp Burney.
Mrs. Dodd was raised and attended school in Moorehead, MS. On Sept. 12, 1936, she married the love of her life, William Zoye Dodd. She and her family moved to Amory in 1941. During World War II, Mrs. Dodd worked at the Prairie Munitions Plant in Aberdeen. She retired as a seamstress after 25 years of work at Red Cap Industries in Hatley. Mrs. Dodd was a member of Hatley Missionary Baptist Church. In 1999, she moved to Tupelo. After her retirement, Mrs. Dodd enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, quilting, reading and especially enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Faye Polo, Florence, MS, and Ellen (Ray, Jr.) Aycock, Tupelo; son, Francis Odis (Linda) Dodd, Granite Bay, CA; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Nancy and Jim Mullins, Nettleton; daughter-in-law, Karen Dodd, Roseville, CA; brother, Hugh (Myrna) Burney, Diamond Head, MS; sister, Pearl Smith, Moss Point, MS; sister, Dora Hollier, Diamond Head, MS; six grandchildren, Frankie Polo, Florence, MS; Renee Hinton, Bradenton, FL; Christy D'Ambrosio, Roseville, CA; Brandon Dodd, Folsom, CA; Brad Aycock, Southaven, MS; Andrea Millis, West Point, MS; six great-grandchildren, Thomas and Emily Papa, Bradenton, FL, Ricky and Caitie D’Ambrosio, Roseville, CA, and Ana Lauryn and Camryn Millis, West Point, MS; and a host of friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Zoye Dodd who died on March 13, 1980; son, William Thomas Dodd who died on May 27, 1982; brother, Martin Burney; son-in-law, Frank Polo; and grandson, Lance Dodd.
A Funeral service for Mary Chloe Dodd will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. David Taylor and Bro. Sidney McCloud officiating. Burial will follow in Meadow Branch Cemetery, Kennedy, AL. Pallbearers will be Dennis Pearson, Jim Mullins, Royce Finley, Brad Aycock, Randy Aycock and Ed Best. Honorary pallbearer will be Hump Pearson.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to a charity of choice.
