Amory, Miss.—Mary Ruth Arnold Allen, 99, died on Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. Born November 16, 1914, she was a daughter of Robert and Evie Roper Arnold. She married Marshall Allen, Sr. in 1932. For many years, she and her husband owned and operated Allen’s Big Star and upon her retirement she enjoyed working for Wal-Mart when it opened in Amory. Known as a people-person, she was also a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Amory. Her hobbies included fishing, playing bridge, and cats.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Saltillo City Cemetery with Dr. Tom Cheatham officiating. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery.
Survivors include one son, George Allen of Amory; special caregiver, Dianne Wilson; and special relatives, Norma Price, Nash Allen, and Bebe Stewart; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home in Amory on Wednesday.
