Amory – Martin Harshel Lockhart, 76, died on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at his home in Amory. Born on March 4, 1938, in Marion County, AL, he was a son of the late John Stayce and Virdie Lee Johnson Lockhart. He married Bobbie Plunkett Lockhart on April 14, 1962.
Martin attended Byrd School in Hamilton, Alabama. He was a devout Christian and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Martin worked as a Supervisor in the furniture manufacturing business. An active man, some of the things he enjoyed were fishing, hunting, wood working and watching wrestling. His grandchildren gave him the most joy. He also liked to listen to country music, especially Johnny Cash.
Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Bobbie, of Amory; two daughters, Betty Mahon (John) of Chesapeake, VA, and Debbie Taylor of Smithville; five grandchildren, Tara and Ashley Taylor; Eric Taylor (Cassie); Christi Delgado (Todd) of Amory; and Bryan Atkins (Laura) of Suffolk, VA; three great-grandchildren, Daxton Manley, Alexandria Delgado and Kayelynn Taylor; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Roy, Donald and Willard Lockhart; sisters, Annie Tucker, Dorothy Lockhart, Mary Sue Lockhart and Patricia Johnson.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM, Thursday, December 18, 2014 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Mac Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Manley, Prince Roby, Todd Foster, Johnny Lockhart, Wayne Lockhart, and Stanley Stanford.
Visitation will be from 5 PM to 8 PM, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
