Amory - Martha Wynell Payne Box Guyton, 75, died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at her home. Born January 30, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Talmadge and Hattie Berryhill Payne.
A homemaker, she was considered an exceptional cook and enjoyed cooking for others. Before her retirement, she was a seamstress in the area garment plants. One of her favorite pastimes was visiting with her sisters. Passionate about animal rescue, she enjoyed her dogs, Lil’ Bit and Annie. She was a member of the Lakeside Baptist Church.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Clinton Worthey and Bro. Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Martin, Tommy McDaniel, Kenny Shields, Ricky Payne, W.V. Hutcheson, Jr., and Johnny Sloan. Honorary pallbearer will be Brandon Sloan.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Lesa White (Richard Holcomb) of Smithville, Sara Kelly (Rob) of Plantersville, and Teresa Northington of Galveston, Tex.; two sons, Mike Gray of Nettleton and Frankie Box of Amory; two sisters, Fay Hutcheson (W.V., Sr.) of Columbus and Lou Ann Martin (J.D.) of Nettleton; 9 grandchildren, Adam Gray, Chris Gray, Niki Gray, Nathan Gray, Nerissa Gray, Ashley Walker, Hunter Airhart, Hope Hall, and Billy Box; and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Butch Gray; grandsons, Nicholas Gray and Michael Gray; son-in-law, Billy White; two husbands, Elbert Box and Dewey Guyton; one brother, Douglas Payne; and 3 sisters, Sue Payne, Dorothy Earrey, and Lavenia Reeves.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home and will continue until service time on Thursday.
