Marlin Pierce Phillips

Smithville — Marlin Pierce Phillips, 94, passed away surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at River Place Nursing Center, Amory, MS. Born in Itawamba County, MS, on January 25, 1925, she was a daughter of the late William Pierce and Odie Holloway Pierce.

Marlin grew up in a large family and went to school in the Turon Community. After moving to Zion, Illinois, she worked in the TV manufacturing business at Warwicks. Around 1955 she moved to Smithville and worked at Monroe Trousers where she hemmed pants and worked in the clothing industry until she retired.

She met John Edmond Phillips through an old boyfriend of hers and they were blessed with a marriage that lasted 74 years. God gave them five children and Marlin was a strong independent nurturing mother and wife. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of New Bethel United Methodist, Turon, MS. Having a relationship with God and loving on her family were her top priorities in life.

Marlin was passionate about the March of Dimes, the Disabled Vets, and Le Bonheur Hospital. In her free time, she loved being outdoors doing things like working in her flower beds, and fishing. Her favorite song was Beulah Land and she loved going to the Old Sacred Harp singings. Her memories will be cherished for generations by her family and friends. They are at peace knowing that she is reunited with her husband and she is in the presence of the Lord.

She is survived by daughter, Linda Gosa (Andy), Smithville; sons, Dwight Phillips (Edna), Fulton, David Phillips (Reta), Smithville, and Mike Phillips, Smithville; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; sister, Eva Nell Smith, Fulton; brothers, Dow Pierce (Cissy), Smithville, Charles Pierce (Myrt), Amory, and Dudley Pierce (Peggy), Smithville; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Edmond Phillips; son, Gary Phillips; her grandson, Jason Phillips; and her great-granddaughter, Bethany Bridges.
