Marion King

Amory – Marion King, 87, died on Monday, August 13, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on May 7, 1925, in Sharkey County, he was a son of the late Vernon D. and Julia Merchant King.

Mr. King was a graduate of Silver City, MS, High School. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. While attending the University of Mississippi, he was drafted during the Korean War and honorably served in the Korean War as a Major. Mr. King was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Starting Mid-South Pest Control in 1965, he was the owner and operator for 47 years. Having a strong, work-ethic, Mr. King took pride in his work. He attended Central Grove Baptist Church. Described as a Southern Gentleman, Mr. King treasured his wife, enjoyed fishing, and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 32 years, Joyce King; his daughter and son, Susan Atkins (Kevin), Amory and Terry King (Julie), Duncan, SC; grandchildren, Sonny Morgan, Amory, Jennifer Fines (Corey), Amory, James Robert King (Jennifer), and James David King of Greenville, SC; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Vernon D. “Pete” King, Brandon and Olan King (Twannie), Caledonia; step-daughter, Brenda H. Cox (Ronnie), Nettleton; step-sons, Lynn Hadaway (Anna), Eddie Hadaway, Jerry Hadaway, Teddy Hadaway (Deloris), of Amory, and Larry Hadaway (Gloria), Fort White, FL; and a host of step-grand children, step-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Opal King; sister, Opal King; and brother, Jimmy King.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, August 16 at Straight Bayou Baptist Church, Anguilla with Pastor Tom Metcalf officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Straight Bayou Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Cox, Kevin Atkins, John Sullivan, Lynn Hadaway, Eddie Hadaway, Jerry Hadaway, and Larry Hadaway.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
