Marilyn Wilson Armstrong

Amory – Marilyn Dianne Wilson Armstrong, 69, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at her residence. Born on May 15,1948, in Kansas City, MO, she was a daughter of the late Jack Alva and Irene Rosalie Hajek Wilson.

Marilyn graduated from Ruskin High School in 1966 in Hickman Mills, Missouri. During her career, she worked as a directory assistance operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, and as a former deputy clerk at the municipal court in Kansas City, MO. She also worked as an accounts payable clerk at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, TN. After moving to Amory, MS, she worked as a ward secretary, admissions clerk, and insurance clerk at Gilmore Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1991.

First and foremost, her relationship with her Lord and Savior guided her life, and she cherished her family close to her heart. Marilyn was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Anna and Angie, and took great pride in raising these strong women. She always gave encouragement and was known for being a faithful and loving Christian. Marilyn was a charter member of Life Pointe Church. She loved teaching Vacation Bible School, participating in church training, and she was a faithful member until her health began to fail.

One of her best qualities was her laugh, and she was definitely fun to be around. Marilyn was outgoing, care-free, extremely giving and had great patience with people. Her grandchildren gave her the most enjoyment in life and she kept them with her every Friday night, cooking breakfast for them on Saturdays. The military was close to her heart, having a brother and father that both served as well as her two grandsons who serve in the military. Marilyn was very passionate about the Wounded Warrior Project

Marilyn touched the lives of many people. She looked forward to her Wednesday Bible Studies with Billie Young and Mary Ruth Frederick. One of her favorite friends was her cat “P. Diddy”. She liked going shopping and vacationing with her friends Liz Dykes and Sandra Earnest. In her free time, she always went to see her family in KC, MO. She also liked going to the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royal games, to the movies, and listening to contemporary Christian music. In her younger days, she was very fond of the Beatles. She could bring a smile to anyone’s face and lend encouragement to anyone in need. She displayed a servant heart for God and was always ready to show people his love. Marilyn will leave a lasting legacy of happiness and love for her family and friends.
