Nettleton – Mrs. Marie Johnson, 80, died on Monday, September 20, 2010, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on December 11, 1929, in Itawamba County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Layfette & Lela Wood Waddle.
Mrs. Johnson was a self-employed hairdresser, retiring in 1982. A faithful member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church, she served the Lord as a former choir member, a Sunday school teacher and was active in the Senior Saints. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed listening to Bluegrass and Gospel music, especially when her sons were playing. Loving and caring, she enjoyed cooking for all her family and friends, looked forward to family gatherings and enjoyed watching the Fulton Gospel Broadcast Channel.
She is survived by her sons, Gerald (Linda) Johnson, Amory, Glen (Debbie) Johnson, Holly Pond, AL, Gary (Debra) Johnson, Hatley, Kenneth (Sylvia) Johnson, Nettleton, Michael (Cheryl) Johnson, Amory; daughter, Sandra (Buddy) Ritter, Nettleton; son-in-law, Frank Jones, Nettleton; brother, Dr. Marion (Nadeen) Waddle, Fulton; sisters, Hilda Johnson and Mildred Wilson, both of Fulton; grandchildren, Kim Hendrix, Becky Reeves, Steve Johnson, Kay Baty, Jennifer Murphree, Allison Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Whitney Johnson, Chad Jones, Andrea Jones, Jared Jones, Alanna Teeple, Amanda Magers, Jessica Powell, Matthew Johnson, Nichole Johnson, and Michaela Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 63 years, Jessie V. Johnson; daughter, Wanda Jones; son, David Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Reed and Jonas Jones.
A Funeral service for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, September 23 at Jones Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Payne and Mr. John Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery in the Fairview Community. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Steve, Matthew and Brandon Johnson, Chad, Jared and Seth Jones.
Visitation will be from 6 – 9 PM, Wednesday at the church and until the service on Thursday.
