Amory – Marie “Granny” Burlison, 91, died on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at River Place Nursing Center. Born on August 3, 1921, in Detroit, AL, she was a daughter of the late John T. and Ila B. Loggains Gilmore.
She married David Reno Burlison in 1938, and they moved to Amory in 1955. Granny worked as a seamstress at Amory Garment. Growing up during the Great Depression, she was a hard-worker who got the most out of everything. A woman of faith, Granny was a member of Bethel Apostolic Church. One who enjoyed spoiling her family and loved to have fun, her hobbies were gardening, quilting, fishing, and listening to Country and Gospel music. Granny is remembered by her great-granddaughter, “The world won’t be the same without her.” Along with her husband, they were proud of owning their home.
She is survived by her son, David Burlison, Sr. (Terri), Quincy; sisters, Audrey Duncan, Zion, IL, and Mag Pointkowski (Wally), Buffalo, NY; daughter-in-law, Brenda Hathcock Burlison, Amory; grandchildren, Teresa Hugley, Tonia Elam, Leah Walters, Janice Bounds, Janis Davis, David Burlison, Jr., Sandra Boetel, and Marty Stuthers; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a large number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Edward “Hank” Burlison; grandson, Randy L. Burlison; sisters, Josie Majors, Luvenia Twiner, Arzina Hill, and Jessie Gilmore; and brothers, Murry , Opal, Bud, and Burdine Gilmore.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, February 19 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Coy Hill and Bro. Stanley Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Pat Gilmore, J. B. Burlison, Nathan Snider, Tanner Elam, Patrick Elam, and Charles Plunkett. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of River Place Nursing Center.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
