Born on December 6, 1918, in the Liberty Community, she was a daughter of the late Elbert Ephram and Sallie Lou Green Knight.Ms. Hoots married James Price Hoots on May 26, 1939.They had one daughter, Wanda.Ms. Hoots was the class valedictorian at Nettleton High School. After graduating from Blue Mountain College with a BS in Education, she received her Master’s in Education from Mississippi State University. A dedicated educator who worked for 40 years, she began teaching in 1939 at Van Buren School. From 1940-1947 she taught at Pine Grove and taught elementary school in Smithville from 1947-51. She started teaching at Hatley Elementary School in 1953 and retired as Principal in 1981.A compassionate and giving woman who believed in “doing unto others,” Ms. Hoots was an active member of Smithville Baptist Church and the Dorcus Sunday school class. Very passionate about her faith, she loved the Lord and used His Word to guide her daily life. Ms. Hoots cherished time spent with her family. A loving and kind lady, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, reading her Bible, traveling, dinners with friends, and playing cards. Mrs. Hoots was an Easter Seals supporter.She is survived by her dear son-in-law who was like her son, Benny E. Wright, Amory; sisters, Juanita Ausbon (Buster), Waukesha, WI, and Glema Dale Young, Nettleton; grandchildren, Penny Boyett (Patrick), Winfield, AL, and Ryan Simmons (Hope), Ben Wright (Leigh Ann), and Justin Wright (Claire), all of Amory; and great-grandchildren, Reagan, Rush, Reece, Riggs, Jilanna, Brody, Emma, Paxton, Garrett, and Tripp.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Price Hoots; daughter, Wanda Dale Hoots Wright; granddaughter, Emily Wright Horne; great-granddaughter, Faith Sanderson Wright; sisters, Inez Burt, Audrey Pearl Laney, and Annie Carpenter; and brother, Bruce Knight.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Friday, July 22 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Wes White and Sam Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ryan Simmons, Patrick Boyett, and Ben Wright, Justin Wright, Sam Carpenter, Edsel Carpenter, John Holland, Jerry Frederick, and Donald Young. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dorcus Sunday school class.Visitation will be Thursday, July 21 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.Memorials may be given to Smithville Baptist Church, P. O.
