Amory – Margie Calloway Hathcote Harden, 91, died September 14, 2010 at her home. She was born November 26, 1918 in Amory to the late Elijah Calloway and Mary Elizabeth ‘Mamie’ Jones Hathcote. She was a member of the Amory High School Class of 1936. She worked for Amory Wholesale Grocery and as a bookkeeper for J.O. Prude, Sr. She was a homemaker for 30 years before returning to work at The Amory Advertiser for 13 years alongside her husband, Richard K. Harden, whom she married February 14, 1941. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 79 years, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and Gleaners/Friendship Sunday School Class. Her happiest hours were spent with her family, in her yard, at her sewing machine, reading and watching Tarheel basketball.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Amory with Rev. Warren Coile, Rev. Steven Keen, and Rev. Steve Stall officiating. The body will lie in state at the church an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Masonic Cemtery in Amory.
She is survived by a son, Ken Harden and wife Ruth Ann of Carrboro, NC; a daughter, Judi Harden Horne of Amory; a brother, Franklin Hathcote and wife Flora of Amory; seven grandchildren, Beth Bunch of Hattiesburg, Amy Alexander (Jon) of Amory, Anne Tindall (Paul) of Silver Spring, MD, Liz Harden (Ryan Mills) of Carrboro NC, Rebecca Abide and Daniel Abide both of Asheville NC and Jason Abide of Chapel Hill NC; three great-grandchildren, Will Alexander of Amory, Sadie Tindall and Miles Tindall of Silver Spring MD; two sister-in-laws, Elaine Rucker of Chapel Hill NC and Ouida Nylen of Birmingham AL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; four sisters, Bertice Hathcote, Beulah Burdine, Irma Sartain, and Ruth Hodges; and two brothers, Elmer Hathcote and James Hathcote.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Jim Burdine, Bill Sartain, Ray Sartain, Louis Hathcote, Wayne Hathcote, Bill Brown, Travis Robertson, Brian McCullen, David McCullen, and John Hathcote.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 16, from 5-7 p.m. at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home.
