Margaret Elizabeth Creekmore

Amory – Margaret Elizabeth Creekmore, 89, died on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at the Gardens of Germantown. Born on January 24, 1923, in Jackson, she was a daughter of the late Alvin Defendant and Wilmuth Phillips Stewart.

Mrs. Creekmore graduated from Jackson Central High School, Class of 1941, and attended MSCW. On September 12, 1942, she married Samuel J. Creekmore, Jr. Before becoming a homemaker, Mrs. Creekmore worked with her husband at Monroe County Tractor Company and managed their drive-in movie theaters. Very involved as a member of First United Methodist Church, she loved her Circle (United Methodist Women), helping with MYF, and serving as a Sunday school teacher.

Mrs. Creekmore’s true legacy was that of encouragement and love, instilling those principles in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. An enthusiast of the arts, she was an avid reader of poetry and literature and enjoyed all types of music playing in her home. Treasuring the lost art of letter writing, Mrs. Creekmore took time to support and inspire others with personal, hand-written words. Lovingly named Memaw and Meme by her grandchildren, outdoors was a favorite place to spend time together. She enjoyed tending her orchard and many unique trees. Always the encourager, she loved her family and was a positive influence and role model.

She is survived by her daughters, Wilmuth Alice Payne (Delmo), Hamilton, AL, and Elizabeth Phillips Rains (Dr. Manrin), Cordova, TN; sons, Samuel J. Creekmore, III, (Barbara), New Albany and John M. Creekmore (Sheila), Amory; grandchildren, Samuel J. Creekmore, IV, (Warner), Emma Kate Payne Mikels (Brad), Benjamin F. Creekmore (Penny), Margaret Molly Payne Ainsworth (Brad), Melanie Creekmore Adkison (Andy), Matthew Creekmore (Leigh Anne) and Mark Creekmore; great-grandchildren, Callie Creekmore, Samuel J. Creekmore, V, Laura Suzanne Creekmore, Reed Mikels, Margaret Creekmore, Caroline Mikels, Garrett Mikels, Lewis Creekmore, Natalie Creekmore, Warren Ainsworth, Will Ainsworth, Jude Adkison, Drew Adkison, and Stewart Ainsworth.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. George Stewart, and an aunt, Elizabeth Phillips Bell.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, June 28, at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Cecil Williamson and Reverend Jimmy Criddle officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 pm, Thursday, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory.
