Hatley – Marcelle Steele Harrison, 92, became totally healed and met her Savior face to face on Thursday, March 21, 2024. She was born as a twin daughter, on July 28, 1931, in Itawamba County, Mississippi to the late Charles Loren Steele and Evie Mae Wileman Steele.
Marcelle grew up in Monroe County with her twin sister, Nell, another sister, Jane, and four brothers. She graduated from Hatley High School and at a young age, she married the love of her life, Donald Bradley Harrison on January 7, 1949. He was a brave man and served in the United States Army just after World War II. They were blessed by God with two sons and shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 2011.
She was a brilliant woman with a knack for professionalism when dealing with the public. She served in many positions during her lifetime, including a PBX Operator for Frisco Railroad, a Secretary for Monroe County Sheriff Joe Monaghan, a Secretary for Attorney Fred Wright as well as Dr. Ewing and Dr. Blakeney. She also worked with Accountant Harvey Colburn and served in the Amory Chamber of Commerce as well as at The National Bank of Commerce.
A selfless woman, Marcelle loved her family, friends and her church family. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ where she was a Sunday School teacher, a part of the Ladies Class, she visited the sick and elderly and always enjoyed cooking dishes and hosting church groups. An amazing cook, she made great cakes and cookies and loved sharing with anyone. She was close to her whole family, yet her best friend in life, besides her husband, was her twin sister. They loved to listen to oldies but goodies like Elvis and hearing Gospel singers always made her smile.
Marcelle was involved in many community activities, including her favorite, the Pilot Club of Amory, as well as the Ladies Railroad Association, as well as NARVRE (Natl. Assc. Of RR Veterans and RR Employees). She was also a contributor to the National Kidney Foundation and the American Heart Association. Her most fulfilling things she did in her life working with Dr. Blakeney and Dr. Ewing and spending precious time spent with family and friends.
She will be missed dearly but her family and friends know that he long anticipated reunion was surely a joyous event in Heaven.
She is survived by her sons, Donald Wayne Harrison (Rosemary), Olive Branch, MS, and Mark Harrison, Amory, MS; granddaughter, Molly Harrison; sister, Jane Steele Yarbrough, Oklahoma, City, OK; numerous nieces and nephews.
