Amory – Mansel P. Lindley, 94, died on Monday, September 5, 2011, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on April 22, 1917, in Tremont, he was a son of the late John and Dellie Self Lindley.
Mr. Lindley attended schools in Red Bay. He worked as a machinist with Remington Arms in Illinois and moved to Amory in 1960. Mr. Lindley was a faithful member of The Church of God of Prophesy. He had worked as a night watchman for Wilkerson’s Manufacturing and also operating a fruit stand on Hwy. 278. A loving, caring and protective husband and father, Mr. Lindley enjoyed talking to people, repairing bicycles, trading cars, pitching horseshoes and washers, playing Rook, and listening to Gospel music.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Johns (Homer) and Martha Eaton, Steele, MO; Barbara Dykes, Amory; Kathy Eaton, Steele, MO; Carolyn Johnson (Jerry), Crete, IL; and Anita Stephenson, Greenwood Springs; sons, Freddie Lindley (Edna), Smithville and Robert Lindley, Amory; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Spencer Lindley, whom he married on August 4, 1934; daughter, Opal Mann; sons, Charles and Carl Lindley; and grandchildren, Terry Johns, Diane Lindley, Ricky Lindley, and an infant granddaughter.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, September 8, 2011, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. James Austin and Bro. James Gray officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
