Hamilton— Malcom Lawrence Houk Jr, 54, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018. Born on July 29, 1963, in Maben, he was a son of Nancy Jane Huffman and Malcolm Lawrence Houk Sr.
Malcom married his sweetheart, Sherry, on January 20, 1989, and together they raised a beautiful family. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Malcom was a former truck driver for Rea Construction. He was known as Ridge Runner on his CB radio. Malcom was often described as an all around happy person, and his sense of humor brought smiles to everyone around him. A true jokester, he enjoyed making people laugh. In his free time, Malcom enjoyed being outdoors, whether he was hunting deer, rabbit, or squirrels. He also enjoyed fishing for crappie, catfish, and bass. Malcom loved camping. Most of all, he loved his wife and kids. Malcom lived a very happy life with his loved ones, and he has left a lifetime of memories to be cherished by his family.
Malcom is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sherry; daughters, Lena Griffin, Houston, Tricia McNabb (Gary), Houston; sister, Maxine Robbins (Robert), Houston; nieces and nephews, Kristen Kelly, Sulligent, AL, James Dunn, Aniston, AL, Christopher Strevel, Rosie Hillhouse, Houston, Thomas “ Peewee” Cohea, Millport, AL, Chance Barnett, Nettleton; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Malcom was preceded in death by his daughter, Christina “Christy” May Houk; brother, Thomas Junior Houk; and nephew, Robert Tyrone Robbins Jr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2PM on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. George Collins officiating. Burial will be in Old Montpelier Cemetery in Clay County. Pallbearers will be Kenny Houk, Danny Houk, Billy Houk, Eric Sutton, Russell Houk, Larry Langford, James Dale Houk, Kirk Marshall, Billie Jones, Jeremy Adams, Jonathon Motes, and Allen Wayne Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers will be Thomas “Pee Wee” Cohea, Mike Little, Charles Sutton, James Doyle Adams, Dezi Hamilton, and Allen Barnett.
Visitation will be from 11AM-1:50PM Thursday at the funeral home.
