Mae Mize Harrison

Amory – Mae Mize Harrison, 88, passed away on May 7, 2018, at Diversicare. Born on May 13, 1929, in Quincy, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Chester and Grace Sims Mize.

She grew up in a large family, being one of 5 children. She attended Quincy Elementary School, graduated from Becker High School and attended IJC. In 1950, she married William Brooks Harrison of Amory. They lived in Birmingham before moving to Jackson, TN, where they spent 45 years. Brooks was in the lumber business and Mae worked and retired after serving as the payroll and accounting head for Jackson-Madison County Hospital. Having no children, they poured their lives into loving their nieces and nephews as their own children.

Mae was a dedicated Christian and a member of Englewood Baptist Church, Jackson. She loved her church. She and her husband were past Sunday school teachers in their younger years. Mae enjoyed Gospel music. With her husband, they enjoyed seeing the country in their travel trailer and camping at numerous parks. She kept a neat house and yard. Mae enjoyed watching Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee sports, as well as baseball, football and basketball on TV. Known for her wonderful cooking, Mae enjoyed cooking and eating her “down-home” meals. In Jackson, she built a strong relationship with the Jackson Police and Fire Departments. Her friends and family fondly remember Mae as loving, giving and an independent woman. Memories of her will live on forever.

She is survived by a sister, Eugenia “Jean” Mize Kendrick, Amory; nephew, Bert Mize (Phyllis), Amory; nieces, Dianne Young (Tom), Amory, and Debbie Veazey (Lowry), Senatobia.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Herbert E. Mize and Bobby R. Mize; sister, Bessie Mize Grisham; sisters-in-law, Joan Mize and Bernice Mize.

Her Graveside Service will be held at 1 PM, Thursday, May 10 in Haughton Memorial Park, Amory, with Rev. Wesley Pepper officiating. Pallbearers will be Bert Mize, Tom Young, Lowry Veazey, Craig Gregory, Zack Young, and Marty Clement.
