Madge Dyson Baker Howell

Amory – Madge Baker Howell, 94, was reunited with her husband and began her new life in Heaven on Thursday, January 19, 2023. She was born on June 6, 1928, in Amory, Mississippi to the late Troy Thomas Dyson and Lois Mc Cary Dyson.

She grew up in a large family with two brothers and a sister. Madge graduated from Amory High School in 1946. She immediately went to work as a Switchboard Operator at Bell Telephone until 1951, when she married the love of her life, Bob Baker. They were blessed by God with two daughters and many years together before Bob passed away. Madge always put her family first and she was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and a real proud great-grandmother. A caring woman with a big heart, in addition to her family, she loved her animals.

Madge was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Amory and she loved the Lord. She enjoyed doing things for her church family and Madge was a great cook who always made food for others. A woman with an amazing amount of spunk, Madge stayed very active in life into her 90’s. Until her health failed her, she was up and going, cooking, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. Madge was a huge supporter of the Amory Humane Society.

She loved to reminisce about days gone by, and she really enjoyed listening to Big band music as it brought back so many great memories of going to Big Band dances with Bob. They also liked to travel, especially after Bob retired as they had time on their side to take in the country side.

There is no doubt that Madge has had a sweet reunion with her husband in Heaven. Her family is thankful for all the wonderful years they have had with her and the great memories made. She will never be forgotten.

Left behind to cherish the memories of her are her daughters, Christy Baker Brown (Ray), Amory and Mitzi Baker Farrar (Sidney), Amory; grandchildren, Whit Brasfield (Audrey), Alex Farrar (Allison), and Russ Farrar (Catherine); great-grandchildren, Rivers Farrar, Trace Farrar, Remi Farrar, and Lola Noy; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Baker; two brothers, Thomas Merritt “Mert” Dyson, and Julius “Jute” Clyde Dyson; sister, Bettye Dyson Prestridge.

A private family graveside service will be held at Amory Historical Society Cemetery, Amory, MS.

Memorials and donations may be made to the Amory Humane Society, PO Box 218, Amory, MS or First Presbyterian Church, 209 4th Street South, Amory, MS 38821.
